THE HISTORY OF The Crochet Club of London

Patty Attkins, a retired high school teacher, wrote a letter to The London Free Press

suggesting the establishment of a Crochet Club for charitable purposes.  Her letter

appeared on Saturday, March 2, 2002, in the “Reader to Reader” section of the

paper.  At the Club’s initial meeting, on March 27, 2002, the 18 ladies in

attendance decided to start making 10” Granny Squares (out of 4 ply

worsted weight acrylic
and using a 5 or 5.5 mm hook) and to join the

unassembled squares together into blankets / afghans at subsequent

meetings.  Now, mostly complete blankets / afghans, of varying sizes and

patterns,
are also brought to monthly meetings by enthusiastic Crochet Club

members!  Other projects are also undertaken from time to time to make use

of unique yarn donations not suitable for the making of blankets / afghans.

The Crochet Club of London was designated a Charitable Organization

on November 24, 2003, by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.

The Charity’s business number is 87116 1006 RR0001.

Since the Club's beginning in March 2002, The Crochet Club of London

has made and donated over 5,500 afghans to over 100 different charitable

organizations
in our community. (See our DISTRIBUTION page for a

listing of these organizations.)

Joining The Crochet Club of London is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the London community and to enjoy doing it!
