Crocheters Needed
October 11, 2020

Are you tired of being cooped up at home due to COVID - 19?

Are you looking for a new activity?

Do you crochet?

If so, through our Crochet Connection project, The Crochet Club of London will drop off yarn and pick up completed blankets, all safely distanced and masked up.

We are especially looking to help out seniors who may have had fewer opportunities to get out these past few months. However, all interested new members are welcome.

There are no membership fees and all yarn is provided free of charge. We can also provide patterns and hooks, if necessary.

We are a registered charity that provides blankets in three sizes (full, lap and baby) to charitable organizations that help people in need, in and around London.

We have been in existence for 17 years and have donated more than 14,000 blankets to more than 100 organizations.

We are always in need of yarn, so if you have acrylic yarn to donate, let us know and we will arrange to have it picked up.

If you are interested, please contact us at crochetcluboflondon@gmail.com. or Marion Honsberger at 519-642-0246.

Dear Crochet Club Members,

The COVID-19 Pandemic continues to affect all of us in so many different ways. We are all doing our best to cope; many of us have found creative ways to support others affected and all the essential workers.

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU to all the Club members, their family and friends who made donations through the GivingChallenge.ca (sponsored by CanadaHelps) in the month of June. There were a total of 43 donations made, $2,192.00 donated ($2,110.00 net after the service charges). This is a great boost for the Club - thank you again.

The agency that won the $20,000.00 is Sistering A Woman's Place in Toronto. They are a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women & trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed.

The results of the funding blitz was an amazing $27.6 million across Canada - a 92% increase over last years effort. Every donation made to the Crochet Club contributed to that huge amount!

MORE GOOD NEWS

We have received the $4000.00 cheque from the Government of Canada Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) administered in London by the London Community Foundation.

Meanwhile, keep crocheting and saving up those blankets. We will meet again and it will be spectacular.

Members who need projects or labels for completed blankets can contact Marion either by email marion.honsberger@sympatico.ca or phone 519-642-0246 and Marion or Chris will get them out to your porch or apartment door - no contact delivery.

Thank you to everyone for their cooperation. Refer to local media for updates on COVID – 19 and continue to follow recommendations to safeguard your health and well being.

THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING WAS HELD ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24TH. AND WAS FOLLOWED BY THE VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON.

In September we distributed our completed blankets to agencies in London and the surrounding area. Over 900 blankets were given away this month - 6 agencies attended the night meeting and 12 agencies attended the day meeting.

Thanks to all the representatives from the agencies for sharing the histories of the agencies and providing insight into the effect our blankets have on the recipients.

The Crochet Club of London won the Pillar Community Impact Award!
MARCH 29, 2019

We were honoured to have been among the three finalists for this prestigious Award, and are thrilled to have won!

The Award was presented at Museum London on November 12th, 2008, and it included a financial gift of $2,500.

(We shall use the money over the course of the year for the purchase of yarn with which to make even lovelier blankets!)
