SEPTEMBER DISTRIBUTION! OUR 10,000TH BLANKET GIVEN AWAY!
Imagine an event at Budweiser Gardens where every seat is filled. Now picture everyone there holding a handmade blanket. 10,000 - THAT'S how many blankets the Crochet Club of London has given to the community since its inception in 2002.
340 blankets were given to the following agencies at the Wednesday evening meeting: Birthright London; Participation House (recipient of the 10,000th blanket); Mission Services; Merrymount Family Support & Crisis Centre; Life*Spin and Ronald McDonald House. Special thanks to everyone who helped make the evening a success, especially Councillors Michael van Holst - Ward 1 and Anna Hopkins - Ward 9.
124 blankets were given to the following agencies at the Thursday morning meeting: Atlosha Second Stage Housing & Zhawanong Women's Shelter; VON Home at Last; London Cross Cultural Learners Centre AND Child & Parent Resource Institute. Special thanks to everyone who helped make the meeting a success, especially Jenn Earle from Teresa Armstrong - MPP London Fanshawe - constituency office and Councillors Maureen Cassidy - Ward 5 and Phil Squire - Ward 6
Thanks to all the representatives from the agencies for sharing the histories of the agencies and providing insight into the effect our blankets have on the recipients.
We were honoured to have been among the three finalists for this prestigious Award, and are thrilled to have won!
The Award was presented at Museum London on November 12th, 2008, and it included a financial gift of $2,500.
(We shall use the money over the course of the year for the purchase of yarn with which to make even lovelier blankets!)
