Our History
The Crochet Club of London was founded in March 2002 by Patty Attkins, a retired secondary school teacher. She had sent a letter to the local newspaper inviting “other crochet enthusiasts to make blankets for charitable organizations in London”. Funds for the start-up year were donated by the Rotary Club of London. The Club became a registered charity in 2003. In 2008, the Club was awarded the Pillar “Community Impact Award”. Patty served as the President for 15 years.
Approximately 18 people responded to Patty’s initial letter. Today the Club consists of approximately 140+ members, of all ages and ability. The Crochet Club has no paid employees, and is a strictly volunteer-driven, non-denominational organization.
As of September 30, 2024, the Club is proud to have donated 4,230 Baby blankets, 6,813 Lap blankets and 7,556 Full blankets- a total of 19,115 blankets to local charitable organizations in the London community and is approaching 3650 pet blankets to local animal shelters and organizations. Over 516 silent auction blankets have been donated to local charitable organizations to support their fundraising activities
